Today, over 1000 people are imprisoned for political reasons in Belarus. The number is constantly growing. More than 60 of them are pupils and students. The repressions continue day by day. Every month, several dozen people are arrested for criminal offences and several hundred for administrative ones.
Since 2020, one can speak of a complete breakdown of the rule of law. You don’t have to have committed a crime to be arrested and imprisonend. Arrests and detentions are completely arbitrary — you don’t have to have committed a crime to be locked up. The investigating authorities fabricate evidence, invent cases, and the judicial authorities play along with them.
Complaints about the conditions of detention or inconsistencies in the cases are not considered as valid and are probably not even investigated any further. Not a single citizen of the country can fully defend themselves in court, and in case of political offences, there is no there is no prospect of acquittal or a fair trial.
